Rough-legged Hawks

There was a steady stream of raptors migrating north today by Bardsville, including this Rough-legged Hawk which flew right overhead. Another light morph was perched in a tree out in the middle of the field and a dark morph soared past, but both were too distant for a photo. There were two American Kestrels in the same area. The male came flying towards the female and she flew up to meet him. They seemed to touch talons and after she flew back to her perch, she was eating something. That's the first time we've ever seen Kestrels "mate feeding". Two Great Blue Herons and an American Bittern were in the swamp along Beatrice Townline Rd. and Eastern Meadowlarks were singing in the fields along Falkenburg Rd. (Bardsville)
