Talia is reborn the moment her hooves steps into the too dry land.
Here she is nothing more than the silence behind her eyes, nerves that are too tender under her flesh and the shy, queer moisture that pools and drips down all her empty places. Here she is more plain, lifeless mare than some bold and violent beast that's far too black. Here she is shallow water, unfeeling and cold where she used to be filled with the vicious colors of emotions.
Here she is only some lame mare, void of everything that had once made her some wild monster.
In all her dullness (glorious, glorious simplicity) she moves through the sand. Her steps are slow and weak and her dry, brittle skin is pulled too tight over her fragile bones. Gone is the gold-dust and the rocks that once trembled at her feet, eager to dive into her uncontrollable moods. Gone is everything that had once made Talia---Talia.
She is nothing now-- nothing, nothing, nothing. As her feet cross over the boundary from barren wasteland into verdant lushness, she is still nothing.
And so the nothing mare simply waits, the moisture in the air breathing a weak softness into her brittleness. Around her horses scream their entrance and others hide in the shadows with weak whispers. The birds and the feral wind scream in all the spaces around her.
Her eyes close and she smiles-- happy to listen to the quietness in the hollow places of her insides. She shakes and with the dust falling from her sides to the earth she sheds that cursed name, Talia
There hasn't been a time where she has ever know silence. And in that silence she presses her nose to her chest and whispers a new name there, Aridela. Because the ocean girl, the burning girl, the girl who knew only how to die, is no more.
