YOU CAN'T SHAPE ME

Zjeena's coat still grows in thick and healthy fat deposits insulate her small body, but time in paradise has smoothed her long hair. She used to sweat a great deal in this humid territory, but after her stay in the Desert, Paradise is a welcome relief. At least there's plenty of shade. Zjeena is aware a sudden change in climate might be difficult for some of the Bay herd members. She can only hope that they either choose to return home, or adapt quickly. She doesn't want to be the cause of any undue suffering. If anything, her goal is to prevent suffering.

A cool winter afternoon finds her browsing lush foliage so satisfy a ravenous appetite. Her belly grows round with child, and Zjeena eats quite a lot to feed the monster that grows. The jungle is quiet save for the chatter of birds and the grinding of a horse's jaws. That is, until Belshazar appears, and greets Zjeena in his boyish voice.

Zjeena looks at him with ears forward and eyes attentive. The young son of Sabela will always be family to her. She sees so much of Sabela in his young face. "Oh, hi Belshazar.", she greets him. He goes on to inquire about Sabela. These are such serious concerns for a child so young, but Belshazar has seen more grief than some horses see in a lifetime. "Sure. Yes, I'll tell you all about Sabela.", she begins. Zjeena stops eating to reach out, nose-to-nose, and blows comforting puffs of warm air. She draws back to continue, her expression soft, and her stance open.

"Sabela and I met in the Bay. We were the first mares Liland claimed for his new herd there. Sabela was mute but she had her own way of communicating. She was sweet, and smart, and strong. She was my best friend." Zjeena remember Sabela fondly. Of all those who have come and gone from her life, Sabela has left the biggest footprint. Zjeena will grieve Sabela's loss for the rest of her years. "I wish she was still here, as I'm sure you do too. She would be proud of you. I know it." Zjeena offers the colt a watery smile.

Her expression is stern as she continues, carefully choosing the words. "I don't believe Liland used her like some of the rest of us, but he certainly didn't consider what the stress of all his drama would cost her. Sabela came to me before you were born, upset, and looking for answers. She was clearly stressed. I'm concerned the environment in the Bay may have been what ultimately caused her death." Liland didn't outright kill Sabela, but he is certainly good at stirriting up drama and stressing others out. Stress isn't good for a pregnant mare. Poor Sabela was caught up in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and was in no condition to fight it. Zjeena doesn't know if Sabela willingly bore Liland her foals, but she won't assume the worst without any proof.
