one hundred miles an hour...
He never took his attention completely off the grulla paint horse, still not sure of his/her role in this. He/She didn't smell of the Peak nor the Lagoon so maybe a new member hoping to join? He/She also didn't seem very confident of their place here, tentative even in body language that he/she wasn't sure he/she wanted to be here. Collision was just crazy to find out about Shenzi and so far, the black colt was his only lead. The moment the colt began to speak, the hope in Collision's eyes faded out, replaced by a feeling of remorse and dread. He had failed her. She wanted to escape the Lagoon and had tried to do so before he come back for her. The colt, probably trying to get some respect from the other bachelors, stopped her and took a trade from another stallion. It was like she was a piece of property or something, a slave who had no choice in the matter. The black tobiano stallion felt a ripple of something new flow through him.
Anger. He never cared for the stealing of mares and trading them like souvineirs. He watched the bachelors do it and felt helpless to stop them. If he stood up, he would be kicked out and he had nowhere else to go. It sucked but it was life. But he thought of Shenzi as a friend and all she wanted was peace. Now she was a slave in another stallion's herd. He looked away from the colt, trying to rein in his anger. He didn't want to explode on the younger stallion. It would get him nowhere. The colt didn't know her. But at least he had given Collision something, a name. The stallion he'd "given" her to and the name of her new "home." The Cove. He would memorize the name and he would head straight there as soon as he found a way out of here. When the colt went to move away, Collision looked up in curiosity, watching as he moved toward the other horse. He gave his name as Noctis and said he was a prisoner. Collision nodded with a small snort. "As am I. I'm Collision."
He clenched his jaw on the rest of the words. He would get to Shenzi, one way or another, but Noctis had already given him all he needed for that. An ear flicked in a new direction as he heard someone else coming. The scent washed over him, a mare of the Peak. And judging by the way the dark mare carried herself, Collision could guess she held some authority here. He pricked his ears and dipped his head in her direction, showing respect since he knew hosility would get him nowhere. He had nothing against the Peak mares and the sooner they realized that, maybe the sooner he could get out of here and save Shenzi. He caught the eye roll of the mare as she caught the last part of Noctis' words, obviously not amused by what he'd done to Shenzi. But her words were calm when she spoke to him, asking for his name and if he came from Paradise. He waited for Noctis' response, but his attention was drawn away to the other paint who was showing much more confidence since hearing what Noctis said as well.
Her/His ears were flat as she/he faced Noctis, berating them for the captivity of mares and saying they deserved the same fate. His skin shivered at the thought of anything happening to her. He couldn't tell whether the horse was talking to just Noctis, addressing him as "colt," because her/his one gold eye seemed to be glaring quite readily at himself as well. Collision remained silent as the black mare approached, noting that the grulla paint shriveled back submissively at her arrival. He watched them both with curiosity, wondering what this new chaptor in his life would hold.
