The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

She seemed to wait for him, which struck him as unusual. It was not enough to give him pause, but he considered her carefully and with a greater sense of curiosity. When she paused, it was not invite him over with any kind of friendly gesture - she simply waited. He could tell she must have been curious about him too, which he figured was a good thing. Better curious and strange than aggressive and strange, he thought.

Daria gave him a nod of greeting, and his head tilted in curiosity almost immediately. His question hadn't thrown her off at all. In fact, felt as if she had corrected him about their name: Pretty Things. Interesting, Pretty Things. Fledge could not deny that, at least. There had been beauty in them, and interest, but perhaps not in the same parts she had seen. Throughout his journeys though, he had learned those definitions often differed. He was just learning a new, stranger one than he was accustomed to.

"I've never seen somebody make them before," he offered, rather than agree or disagree. It was a neutral response, but he grinned nonetheless, even though he wasn't sure she'd try to read between the lines of what he'd said. Already, Daria seemed more interested in something else. He chuckled under his breath when he realized just how right he had been: she had already started to lead the way somewhere.

Now, that gave him pause. He had to quickly consider his options, and he frowned slightly as he did so. She was strange, but she hadn't presented herself as malicious either. How much of a risk was going with her? And was that risk any different to being where they were together? Fledge nodded, and then he took a slow step after her. He'd survived more immediately dangerous situations before. Still, he could not deny a buzzing sensation in his stomach. Just what was she planning on showing him exactly?

"Becoming one. What does that mean to you?" He asked quietly as he quickened his pace so that he could move in tandem with her, shoulder to shoulder though he kept his distance. He wanted to ensure he was seen as an equal, at least in a sense, and he wanted a chance to watch her face again. It showed so much and yet, not the things one might have expected. Where he had expected caution, he'd gotten excitement instead. Most of all though, he wanted to hear what it meant: becoming one. "Did somebody teach it to you?" He pressed again, keeping his voice quiet and calm. Fledge didn't want to press too hard, after all, but it felt essential that he uncover what he could. Malicious or not, his encounter with Daria felt like something he'd remember for a long time, and something that others might be curious to hear as well.
