Persephone listened carefully as the stranger spoke, her dark eyes trained on him. He introduced himself as Gunther, and mentioned a pregnant companion, but she was surprised to hear him mention a familiar name – Rowena. A relative of hers, it seemed. That would explain his stature, at least – it was a believable statement. Persephone didn’t know the mare all that well, but she had been living in the Forest for some time now, and had not shied away during the war – she was a good member of the herd. A friend of a friend was always a good start, and Gunther had given her no other reasons to mistrust him just yet. “Yes, Rowena lives here,” she confirmed with a nod of her head. “Are you close?” She paused a moment, curious of the response. “Where is your companion? You are welcome to stay in the Forest with her, as long as neither of you cause any trouble. We have had enough of that lately. You will be safe here.” She offered a small smile of encouragement. |
