Since early April we have been seeing what appear to be the same two pair of Purple Finches hanging around the area, and just a few days ago three (or possibly four) juveniles made their first appearance. The adult males were notably different from each other with respect to the saturation and breadth of red colourization. The juveniles, similar to but slightly smaller than the females, though not by much, were identifiable by their particularly awkward attempts to land on branches and at the bird feeder. Now, one pair of adults seem to be frisky enough to perhaps be considering a second brood. We haven't seen the more lightly reddish male for several days. Below are pics from this morning.
