PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Rhadra likes the sentiment he shares, that life is better lived than watched. She has never thought about it in quite those terms, and she tucks the thought away for later contemplation as he launches into a variety of tales. Rhadra listens, fascinated, and no little astounded by what she’s learning. Her head is buzzing with questions by the time he’s finished.

“I’m sorry about your friend,” she begins. “Where I come from, the band stallions want more mares, and tend to compete for complete herds. From the time I reached maturity until I left, I knew no less than three separate band stallions as ‘mine.’ Three in three years! At least the mares remained more or less the same: no one snuck us off without retribution or a chase.” Rhadra sees now more than ever how critical a close-knit band of mares is to the success of a herd. Without that unity the group might have scattered at any altercation and become easy pickings for stallions looking to begin or supplement their own herds.

She is amazed at all the different herd-cultures she has become aware of. The Peak being a place of solely mares, the Maiden Bands Collision speaks of, even the bachelors he’s referred to are all very different from what she expected to find far away from home. It makes her think —hope— that maybe there is a way for her to be with her stallion after all. A herd of two... three, she thinks as she turns her head to nose fondly at her large barrel, would not be such a bad thing. Perhaps there would be no need for her to be a lead mare in that context, no pressure to provide children yearly. For though Rhadra sees proof of her capabilities now it has taken years for her to catch just one time. It is unlikely she has grown suddenly fecund; euphoric though she is over her pregnancy subconsciously the black Vanner considers it a fluke of her system, and not something upon which to rely in future seasons.

But, all in due time. She faces the painted stallion again and smiles warmly. “I hope you do find happiness here. I know I’d enjoy hearing more of your adventures, if you’re inclined to share. Here, there’s a nice spot to graze a little higher up if you aren’t too uncomfortable. It gets a little difficult to breathe the higher up you go, I think. I haven’t ventured too far up, but I’d like to eventually, see every bit of these mountains I can, you know?” She turns, still chatting, to lead him higher, very much at peace in her present company and taking full enjoyment of the day.
