Whip-poor-wills

Coopers Falls and the Black River Road are part of a great route for Eastern Whip-poor-will sightings. They lead to Chisholm Trail, which is the motherlode for these birds. Tonight with a full moon (recall the guest speaker at MFN recommending full moon) we heard 20, two of which flew by about 2 metres away from me. The return route heads over more farmland and wetland areas that are bustling with swallowa in the daytime.
The night also yielded 7 Common Nighthawks and a Ruffed Grouse.
