John & Ed--I don't know of any orders the President has given that were not lawful, I just meant to raise a mild objection to the idea that "not following orders" was/is unacceptable. As everyone says today, "It's complicated."
BTW, for an interesting account of refusing an unlawful order, ask our classmate, Tom Watson to recount his doing so as a Rear Admiral.
A FOGO (or GOFO, depending on your service) is a Flag Officer or General Officer. One of the other sites I watch uses the acronym so much I thought it was commonplace. Replies:
