CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. Hi again John
Up to the age of 15 I lived in the family home on Newcombe Road, Higher Summerseat and from our front window we had a panoramic view of Peel Tower atop Holcombe Hill...(actually if correctly named it's Harcles Hill.) It was the first thing I saw each and every morning. Throughout the 40's and certainly up to the late 70's as you probably know, it was traditional to have a mass gathering on Holcombe Hill on Good Friday. A religious service was held at the bottom of the hill at 3pm and it was normal for a fair to held in Holcombe Brook and along Hill Bottom Road.
In the 1960's thousands turned up and my father would look out of the front window with his binoculars trying to spot anyone on the hill that he may have known Ha Ha. Happy memories of long ago.
