Hello, World

He couldn't stop laughing as he watched Cerosi cut loose and buck and squeal. She seemed to be enjoying himself and he was enjoying watching it. It wasn't often he got to see the other horses of Salem acting all playful like that. When the gray mare tried to land a playful nip on his withers, he snorted and tossed his head in response, throwing a kick out in the opposite direction of her before rearing up to flail his front legs out. He was trying to seem powerful and yet he made sure none of his hooves even came close to her, not wanting to hit her by accident. When he came down, he let out a little squeal of his own and gave a few playful bucks, inviting her to run or play if she wanted. As she pranced around him, he grinned and gave a gentle whicker, enticing her to run so he could chase after her. His tail was up like a banner, tangled hair waving out behind him as he arched his neck and waited.

As he showed her the tree, she seemed interesting in one of the trees in particular. When she plucked a fruit from the tree, he watched with interest, his eyes lighting up when he saw the enjoyment on her pretty features. When she offered him a bite, he flicked an ear to make sure it was okay with her before he gingerly reached out to take a bite of the fruit. "Mmm!" He said immediately upon tasting it. It was really sweet and juicy. She told him she remembered them from living with her father and said he gave her away when she was less than a year old. That last part sobered Akello up, his eyes growing sad as he scowled. "I'm sorry to hear that. Do you miss him?" He tilted his head, wondering if she was angry with him for doing that or if she was already over it. Did she blame him for what he did?

He didn't know how he would feel if his parents ever made him leave. If they had a good reason, he figured he would understand. They moved on after a little while and when they reached the bay, he stepped down beside her to get a drink as well but gave her space so she didn't feel crowded. When he asked if she needed an escort, she seemed uncertain as she looked toward the horizon and he followed her gaze though one ear stayed trained on her the whole time. The yearling gave her time to think through her answer before she chuckled and said she hadn't found a place to sleep yet. She said she hadn't met anyone yet until today and he offered a small smile, his eyes lighting up. "Well, I'm glad you did. And I promise there's plenty of cool places to sleep in the Desert. But that's a tour for another time." He said with a grin.

Cerosi suddenly seemed shy so Akello paid more attention, wondering where it came from. She told him she would be okay on her own and thanked him. He smiled and nodded. "Any time. It was fun hanging out with you. And let me know if you ever want some company at night. My mother isn't staying in Salem again yet so I sleep alone most of the time. Sometimes it just feels better to have another horse standing next to you, ya know?" He gave a sheepish smirk, hoping she didn't think him a total coward for admitting that.
