i'll let the bad parts in,

Kendry had not yet acquired himself a herd. She blinked, startled by the idea of it. Then, because she was startled by how transparent she must have been. Was it so bad, though? Was it truly so terrible to have somebody know? It was worse to admit it to herself, she thought, but it was kind of him to at least give her some kind of hope. At least then, she could play pretend. In truth, it made her grin - an honest grin. They might have survived. They might have just washed up elsewhere. Elara just hoped that they had been as fortunate as she, with having met such a patient guide.

"I was separated from two others," she confirmed with a slow nod, the admission tasting bitter on her tongue and yet, strangely refreshing despite it. Saying it made it feel more...solvable, more like a problem rather than a looming beast waiting to take her down with it. "Are those places - Salem, and Atlantis - good? Good like here is, or at least full of others with good souls?...Like your own has been to me." Where she had been a bundle of nerves prior, she felt confident in making that kind of statement. It wasn't such a strange thing to say, to Elara at least. For all that she didn't know about Kendry, she was at least sure of a certain kind of goodness that he possessed. He had been more than polite to her even after he had fulfilled what many others might have seen as simple, common courtesy. Still, she did wonder how he might take the compliment - if he considered it that at all.

"I think you'll make for a great leader, Kendry." It was said as a fact. She said it clearly, slowly, with her eyes locked onto his. It was a good feeling, to feel sure of something for the first time in days. She'd been taught many things already, but she considered two of her lessons to be most valuable: there was hope, and there were kind strangers. "Once I'm rested, I'd like to help you in whatever way I can - to repay you for your help, and to help chase your dream." Because it was only fair, right? He had helped Elara see part of her own, and perhaps some day she'd be able to fully realize it - to find Luma and Noctis on one of those other shores.

She grinned then, more sheepishly than before. "I realize I...won't know much about these lands, these places...but I know other things, I promise," she said with a flick of her tail, as if agitated (which she was, having suddenly become aware of how...uninformed she must have looked). The less dazed she felt, the more she wanted to prove herself as the capable, passionate Elara she had been before the water had swallowed her up. She didn't want it to take that from her too.

we all live in a kind of continuous dream
