Light in darkness will show you the way

EYOTA
Mare | Quarter Horse x Appy mutt | bay tobiano blanket | 15 HH | six

The mare flicked her tail at his words as her heart fluttered in her own chest. It was true, this was her first encounter with a stallion, and the first of any kind she had met coming to this new land. She barely got a glimpse of the meadow before he showed up. And she was perfectly fine with that. He was as handsome as any she had ever seen, and the way he spoke to her drew her in even more. He seemed safe, warm, inviting even, and certainly his scars proved he was more than capable of protecting a herd. Her heart fluttered once more as his soft muzzle touched her own, and soft smile forming on her lips as she ever so slightly leaned in towards the stallion, nuzzling her nose against his.

Eyota tore her gaze away from his striking emerald eyes, though the smile remained on her lips. She was nervous about the journey to this new place she hoped to call her home. What were the others like there? Would they be accepting of her? What dangers would they face on their journey there? She didn’t even know how far this paradise was, and her body still ached from the journey across the sea. But she would never admit to the stallion how tired she was, that showed weakness, and despite the soreness in her muscles, she had to press on. As Rougaru stepped closer to the mare, she nudged her soft pink nose against his withers, her eyes once again moving towards the horizon, the setting sun reminding her just how soon darkness would fall upon them, as well as the unknown dangers of this land. She took a step closer towards him, looking back towards the others gathering close together in the center of the meadow.

”Surely they can’t be so bad, everyone seems to end up here at some point, right?” Eyota looked up towards the stallion, staying a few feet behind his head, her nose at his withers, though she kept herself pressed closely to him. As intimidating as he seemed at first, Eyota was warming up to him. He made her feel safe that was for sure. As they began walking she gave one last look back at the group before prancing up behind the stallion, her tail in the air excitedly, eager for what paradise had in store for her, as well as Rougaru. She paused, lowering her head and grabbing a mouthful of what tasted like the sweetest grass in her life before continuing to prance after the stallion. Still, she could not show weakness. Not to him. She felt driven to prove to him how useful she could be!

”How far away is your home? Are we going to make it before dark? N-Not that it matters, I can keep going through the night as well!” Eyota smiled weakly as she followed behind the stallion. Just from the beach she could make out the faint landmarks in the distance, though she did not look forward to another swim, she would do her best! She was not one to give up easily, and she was stubborn to boot. The sun was setting quickly now as it raced to meet with the horizon, sending and array of colors across the sky. The mare looked towards the sun with softened eyes as the rays sent light across her speckled hide, still damp from her last swim. She never liked the dark. With darkness came dangers, and as brave as the mare tried to be, she was truly afraid here. It was a new place, filled with new dangers, and new adventures. And although the emerald eyed stallion made her feel safe, nothing could take that fear away. Not yet anyways.

there was a memory of how beautiful,
how wild,
how colourful,
how adventurous,
and how wonderful this big world was.
