Tiny compared the world around her, or at least feeling so, the child hesitated in the swirling mists at the sound of approaching hooves. At first, she grew excited when she looked into the twisting droplets that paled the approaching mare. For a brief moment, she thought it was true and her mother was materializing from the water to come back to her. The mare that stepped forward was red instead of gray, and even so Akadi was not exactly sure this was not in some way her mother coming back to her. Her curiosity did not turn to grief, nor disappointment, at the sight of the stranger and so she stepped forward eager to discover what this new twist in her path would bring her. Velvet nostrils flared, trying to take in the mare’s scent, but the intricacies were lost in the moisture and muddled by the filly’s inexperience in learning scents.
Her head tilted to the side and she thought about the question for a moment, unsure how exactly to answer. I guess not… I was looking for my mother. But I don’t think she is coming back. She did not seem extremely distressed by this, though there was a sadness laced in her words. Unless you are her, somehow? I don’t remember what she looked like. For all the filly knew her mother was a cloud in the sky, the mists around them, or the seafoam on the beaches. She looked around, as if there was still a chance another could appear. Akadi quickly accepted the fact that it would not be so and she turned her full attention onto the red mare with a smile and stepped forward, oddly confident despite the situation. Where did you come from? The mist, the falls? The forest? She peered out behind the mare. The sea? Her little face gazed up at Siobhan, ears flicking to and fro, awaiting an answer.
