Harlow nibbled her lip, sensing she'd inadvertently poked a nerve. "I didn't mean anything by it," she said, not completely sure why she felt the need to. "It's just... impressive."
The last word slipped out in a softer tone as Harlow accepted her jacket back. Her gaze flicked back to Lottie's, her usual blue-green eyes wide. "Thank you," she said, clearing her throat irritably at the little catch in her voice. She'd never had someone fix something for her before, never had someone do something kind just... because. Maybe the girl planned to hold it over her head later? Harlow studied her pretty face intently for a moment. No, she didn't look the sort. And wasn't that strange? Since when did she trust preps?
Her mood changed abruptly at the sudden eyecontact, the words left unspoken. She moved a little nearer, close enough to hear the deep, shaky breath. An impish look formed on her face, waiting until Lottie had glanced back in her direction to start lifting the hem of her shirt, exposing a slim, muscular stretch of belly.
"Actually, that'd be really nice. Should I just take it off here?" she asked softly, looking Lottie dead in the eye. But the teasing didn't last long; Lottie deserved an explanation, after all. Harlow dropped the hem of her shirt, tentatively sitting cross-legged on the floor of Lottie's bedroom. She'd gotten out most of the bed but didn't dare sit on the bed, for many reasons.
"Hobbies?" Harlow ventured, knowing full well that wasn't the right answer. She continued before Lottie could reply. "I sort of... run with a..." she paused, squinting a little as she thought. She changed her track. "Ever heard of the Valkyries? The girl gang on the East side?" Harlow studied Lottie for a second, her laugh a little bitter. She pulled her legs up against her chest, the position a little defensive. "Of course not, why would you? Well, I run with them. I mean, I run them. I'm the leader."
She blew out a breath, rubbing a hand over her forehead. "Or I was, until tonight. Not sure at this point what's going on. First thing I heard about it, my second was getting jumped and I was getting shoved out a window."
Harlow looked up, flicking a brow at Lottie. "Are you going to turn me in?"
