The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

With the loss of the Crags and Grotto, Ella had been flushed out and sprawled back out under the open skies of Moladion. At least, that's how she'd seen it. She wouldn't have been so frustrated over it had she some more time to find another suitable place to rest, and with old Morgan venturing further and further out, he'd hardly been useful in that regard too. Oh, he'd said, it's about time you learn how to stay on the move! It's about time you learn how to decide when it's the right time to buckle down or keep going, he'd said and Ella had quietly rolled her eyes and cursed under her breath. He was right, of course. Ella just couldn't stand it when he was right.

So, she'd taken to prowling around what parts of the Crags did emerge from the water. Ella had developed a real knack for bounding between the stone pillars and scrambling over the rocks, her narrow body well adapted to the technique involved. Her long tail swung around behind her to balance her, all the while she likely looked on the brink of insanity from an outsider's perspective. Totally in control, she was. The thrill made it worth it too, and she emerged on the opposite side of the water with an accomplished huff as she caught her breath. It had been tireless work, and her heart thumped away in her chest like a wild storm itself. The only way to relieve that, of course, was to start loping alongside the flow of the water to find another point of crossing.

What she found instead was Menkhet. Ella was some distance away when she spotted the woman, and immediately she perked up in anticipation of some company. Ah, it had been a while since she'd had a good chat! What better time than when their entire land was being swept up and buried under water? She grinned, snaggled and toothy, and began to pick up her pace.

Ella let out a bark of greeting, but did not pause. Instead, she moved up towards Menkhet and kept pace with her (at a distance, of course, for even Ella had some 'loner caution' about her). "Keepin' ye' distance from it, are ya'?" She didn't bother with the formalities. Instead, she peered across to the water, noting the lack of visible boulders like there had been further up the watercourse. "Or ye' tryin' to find somewhere to cross?" If that was the case, Ella had some ideas, though she wasn't sure if Menkhet had...well, the right build for it. She was an impressive thing - don't get Ella wrong! - but she'd never seen a wolf that big move with the precision needed to rock-hop. Then again, maybe Ella could teach her!
