I have added pitch count estimates for all of Carlton's starts (they are in red for each start under the scorecard: "For this game.") They are somewhat eye opening and give you some idea of what his workload was. He bent and finally broke under this workload...after 15 more seasons.
Another great outing--7 wins in a row for a 28-51 team. This report features a mini-primer on what Frank Robinson does to get out of a slump (he was 2-22 after this game). Also features a comparison of Billy Wiliams (#2 1972 MVP) v Johnny Bench (1972 MVP). I happened to notice that Williams had a good day against Houston on July 11. 8-8 in a double header, with 2 HRs. The comparison is intersting, make your own judgement of who had the better season.
