one hundred miles an hour...
He wasn't sure he wanted to know the circumstances behind the young Fjord colt that approached when he was challenging. The younger male seemed more angry with his predicament and was going to use Collision's challenge as a stepping stone for something he wanted as well, freedom. Collision admired his gung-ho attitude but wondered if the anger could be redirected to something more productive so the colt didn't grow up into an angry stallion. Of course, that wasn't his responsibility so maybe it was better if he brushed it off for now. There was probably nothing he could do for the Fjord so he should worry about Shenzi and how to get to her instead. The black mare didn't leave him waiting long. He saw her approaching form and his ears pricked, taking in the calm set of her shoulders as she got closer. She didn't seem angry with him for challenging so maybe there was hope for some kind of compromise, after all.
When she gave a polite nicker, the stallion nickered back in kind, his brown gaze curious and friendly as she approached. She didn't seem to have ill intentions in mind so there was that. She stopped a few feet away and he could really appreciate how stocky and tall she was. Did the Peak like strong looking mares or was that just usually the style? His friend, Rhadra, wasn't a tiny mare either so he had to wonder. Wasp wasn't what he would call nimble either. The mare before him held her head high like she held authority but she didn't seem to look down on him or anything, her leg cocked as if at rest and he took the moment to rest his own in kind. She started off with an apology and Collision tilted his head in puzzlement, not expecting that.
She said she was glad they could talk now instead of fight and he dipped his head in agreement. She asked about his friend and he scowled thoughtfully. It was never easy to think about Shenzi and what she might have gone through since he was gone. He couldn't think of himself when she was out there somewhere, maybe a prisoner still. He nodded. "First, let me introduce myself. I'm Collision. I'm glad, as well, that we can take the time to meet now. I apologize that I didn't think first to meet with someone rather than challenge. Can't say I was thinking all that clearly." He offered with a sheepish smile before continuing with a more sober expression. "My friend is a mare I met in the Lagoon, Shenzi. She needed a place to stay and I offered my protection. Then the war happened and I was sent to Luthien. I told her I would return for her but I never made it back because of the challenge and subsequent captivity. I found out upon first getting here that she was traded to a stallion called Solomon who lives in the Cove by another member of the Cove."
He spoke everything up to that point mostly in a matter of fact way. He held no anger toward her or any of the Peak for taking them captive and he wanted the mare to understand that. The only time any emotion slipped through was when he spoke of her being traded, practically growling the word in his anger to think of her being treated like a piece of furniture or property. She belonged to no one, not even himself. She was her own horse and he wanted her to be free more than anything. He would do whatever it took. He looked back up at the black mare then after trying to compose himself for a minute. Determination shone in his eyes. "I don't want her to think I abandoned her like others did in her past. I need to know she's okay and happy. I could never forgive myself if I just moved on with my life and left her to that fate." He searched the mare's expression for understanding or any other kind of emotion. Would she think he was just playing her or would she understand how much this meant to him?
