Before he took his leave Scarecrow raised a final question, and his amber eyes flicked to his long face as he inquired if they should use his name in their search. He stared down the stallion for a moment, considering the subtle implication that lay between the lines of his neutral question.

“Yes,” he answered flatly. “And her sister, Ak Burun. Shararat is prone to wander, though she has been gone longer than we are accustomed, so we share some concern. ”

Maslakhat suspected Ak Burun did not worry as intensely as she had made it seem in their conversation with Kore, but if she could use this angle to her liking, so could he. The unification of their views would only serve to strengthen them.

He shifted his gaze to Cain once more, to finish his thought. “It does help to know she was here recently, evidently unharmed.”

Cain’s elaboration on the incident surrounding the unfortunate deaths brought Maslakhat more clarity and he dipped his head once more to acknowledge his determination. Not long ago, he had fended off some hungry canines from the formerly captive beauty, Merwerit, and he knew that such beasts were often crafty with their hunting tactics. Not even the strongest stallion could singlehandedly fight them off, and Maslakhat knew he was fortunate that the group he encountered were more apt to abandon their pursuit than press on until blood was drawn.

“Likewise, Cain,” he acknowledged. “Know that if any of yours befalls injury again, I am in company with a mare called Sidika who is an accomplished healer. I have no doubt she could help in the unfortunate event the predators return.”
