The mare snorted with absolution when the boy decided to leave. Good. One less male walking around the Peak meant for mares. There were far too many dangers lurking she was not about to let some random youngster come in and possibly start trouble. As he turned and walked away the mare returned to walk her rounds, knowing she needed to get back to her children soon, otherwise they would surely drive their babysitter to madness.
She did not get far before she heard the sounds of wolves yipping excitedly. Her heart both hardened and fell. This was a terrible discovery. If the wolves had returned and where excited about something it meant danger for them all. Panic rose in her throat. She picked up her pace to return to her children, a mother’s instinct a hard thing to forgo. She did not get far before she noticed the trail of yearling hooves. Her face twisted in disgust and she knew exactly what happened. The moron of a colt had wandered around and excited the wolves, calling attention back to equines as a possible source of food. Now rage rushed through her veins as she raced up the path towards the sounds of predators and the struggling youth. As she moved, she really was not sure which four legged creature she was more eager to kill. The wolves or the moron.
The moment she broke through the trees the Vulcan screamed her fury at the canines. Her first target was the wolf closest to Jay. Seemingly reckless, she charged her body forward, barreling into the wolf and sending it paws over body away from its prey. Still crying out at the wolves, she lashed at them with her rear hooves. The moment her hooves touched the ground she stood and spun, her front weapons flying in challenge at the wolves. She and her sisters had spent too long training the wolves adult equines were not to be tangled with. Her cries her blood curdling challenges, her hooves sharp and deadly. When she stood on all fours once more, breathing heavily she looked at their yellow eyes. The remaining pack backed away from the warrior, recognizing a fully grown mare was likely to end in injury. Once they dispersed, Adelheid spun on Jay, her face just as livid as it had been when she faced the wolves.
What the - she had to bite her tongue. Of all the… Rarely had her rage left her literally speechless. Had this boy been anything but a foal she would have truly unleashed hell. Adelheid bit her tongue so hard it started to bleed in her mouth. Clearly this colt needed some kind of something. The Lagoon would only twist him and his limited intelligence. Fine. You. Child. Whatever your name was. Jay. I don’t even care. You can stay in the Peak until you are two, or until you learn not to ask wolves to eat you, whichever comes first. she spat. But let me make some things clear, you are not a captive or a Trinket, you are free to go whenever you please, but less than welcome back unless you prove yourself. And, if you and I ever cross paths again, I will not be so forgiving of foolishness. Her tail whipped in continued agitation. Slowly she tried to calm herself down so she could think and speak clearly without lashing out at the boy. I would suggest the lower lands by the creeks. There are probably many mares who would teach you a thing or two. And less… wolves. Still steaming, she turned on her heels and stalked away. With the wolves running around her priority was her children. If this fool chose to get himself eaten again that was on him. She had done her duty this time.
