I'm frozen to the bones, I am...

I'm frozen to the bones, I am...

Uncertainty flickers in his glacial eyes. What if she never comes? What if everything that they had together was over? His heart lurches at the thought and his glacial eyes fall to the surf and sand beneath his hooves. He watches the bubbles and froth as it whirls around his legs and tugs at the feathers that cling to his fetlock. What if she was done with him? He swallows back the fear that clinches at his heart.

Not now.

The crunch of underbrush and the snap of foliage draws his glacial eyes up... and there she is. Just as beautiful as he had remembered - just as vibrant and beautiful - her coat brilliantly red with spots of white scattered across it. Stars in a crimson sky. His glacial eyes find her dark honey gaze and his lips widen into a smile.

She does not hesitate to close the distance between them and his heart flutters to life. "Sio, drottningin mín," he breathes her name into the still midnight air. How many nights has he dreamed of this moment? The nights when he was alone and he silently prayed to his gods in hopes that they would be reunited. And now here in this moment they finally have found each other once again.

She presses herself into him and he wraps his neck around hers. He lays his head across the wide part of her back and breathes in her sweet scent. His ears momentarily go back as the realization begins to dawn on him - she lacks the scent of the season. His stomach drops at the thought of someone taking it from her. Had the Lagoon returned in retribution? Anger begins to simmer in the pit of his stomach; despite his best efforts to cull the fear. But there is no scent of the Lagoon... just of Ailill.

Her words pull him from his concerns. "I have missed you too," he whispers as he presses his neck against hers once more.

But it only a moment longer before she pulls tensely pulls herself away from him and glares down her nose at him. His ears tilt back in preparation for her next words. Where have you been? She asks. At first her words are soft but the next ones are accusatory and brim with anger. Like a colt she chastises him.

"Lost," he answers as his glacial eyes search hers smoldering dark gaze. "I lost myself after the War."

He drops his gaze to the surf at his hooves as he tries to convey all of the feelings he had felt over the last months. Finally after a few seconds he returns his gaze to hers. "I went to the Shore and then to the Crossing. I was ashamed that I had lost our home. I was ashamed that I had abandoned you," he pauses a breath. "and I am sorry that I hurt you."
