  1. I don't really feel like there is really much incentive to other avenues at the moment, and I really wish there was. I think a big part of this is that there are a lot of players and not that many territories. Considering there were 30 active players that responded to the last activity check, and new people that have joined since. As each player is allowed up to 2 leaders with the recent rule changes, thats 60+ potential territory owners, with only 14 lands. Obviously not everyone wants to run a territory, but it also means that getting one in the first place is a challenge, let alone being in a position to bargain or trade or give away any additional lands.

I think the focus on battle strength is partly a result of this. The lands are precious so you kinda have to do everything you can to protect it once you get it.

  2. I do think the government system is cool, but it doesn't really confer any sort of benefit so there's not a big push for it. Its a really cool idea, and I think having it listed probably gives people some idea as to the climate of the island. I think it has as much merit as people want to put into it, and it just hasn't really been explored much because most people generally keep their herds to themselves.

I will say though, that the homepage has always been buggy for me and is forever out of date still showing January updates so I don't check there often.

  3. I do think spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are still important as posts without these things are often hard for me to read. There are a lot of free applications that someone can use such as Grammarly, the Hemingway app, or even applications that come on most computers and phones that can check for these things.

Grammar should count for less in my opinion. I think all the points you made about stylistic freedom are important and valid. I like the idea of scoring a post based on "flow" but I also think that is a highly subjective criteria. I think the compromise of increasing the value of other parts of the fight is the best choice, rather than taking away from the points for it.

  4. Yes. I do. Resoundingly. As I mentioned above, I think part of the reason that characters don't trade or make allies or any of that is because territories are few and precious right now. If you get one you hold onto it because you are already limited in how many you can have, and in how you obtain one.

As to whether I would claim one, not right at this minute, but I wouldn't say no in the future. I hesitate only because I play one extremely active herd stallion, and character wise, I only have two others that would be interested in doing so and they are both wrapped up in very heavy plot threads. Maybe only do a few at a time? Or (I dunno which lands you worked on) maybe do Cimarron first?

  5. I absolutely love this. I like the idea of quest threads but I know that we already ask a lot of our mods and wouldn't necessarily want them to have to do a lot of extra steps and replies. I think to keep it as simple as possible, maybe do the random events like you do now, and then it is the players responsibility to respond OOC to the prompt with links to the threads in which they participated. I think these events spur a lot of in character development, as evidenced by the burst of activity in the Cove follow it's event.

    To make it fair, maybe:
    - limit it to .5 XP point per event per character?
    - require at least 2 posts in that thread or 2 separate threads to qualify (dunno about this one, but I think it may prevent people making throwaway threads/posts they never continue just for XP)
    - character must interact with the event in some way (ie just posting on the board with the event doesn't count, must reference/interact in some way)
    - players must respond to the event thread by 1 week after the event's end date to earn the XP (so mods don't have to keep monitoring it)

The only other concern I have for this is how often events get posted other places. IE the Cove recently got an event, but no other land did, so the Cove residents would have gotten an unfair advantage. I really like the idea of the territory events being completely random, but I do think that every time a territory event happens, something should happen in the public areas that other characters can react to as well.

  6. I like the upping it to 2 challenges per season. I agree with your concerns about making them overpowered, but it does seem silly to me IC wise that in a herd of many fighters, only one can issue a challenge per season.

  7. Personally, I like the current limits, although I don't have a strong opinion as to whether they stay.

I do think size would come into play when it comes to battles, and while an argument could be made that a smaller horse is generally more agile, I don't think there's much comparison between getting kicked by a Shetland to getting kicked by a Shire. Perhaps this could be taken into account under the Accuracy/Realism portion of RP battles... and just leave dice battles as they are.

Battles aside, as far as breeding is concerned... I personally see it as less of an issue. I mean, we aren't exactly RPing out the actual process and we already have horses that smile and talk, so what's a little more stretch of the fantasy?

  8. You guys are already doing a great job and I appreciate everything you do so much!
