you call me out upon the waters

N.asa
you call me out upon the waters

She watches as the pain and despair washes over Cain. Her heart wretches at what he must be feeling; both in his thoughts of failure and his deep sense of loss. Her green eyes gaze at him as he speaks of losing his queen, his child, and his other herd member.

He nods for her to accompany him on a walk and she obliges. Her thin legs carry her effortlessly across the sandy terrain. The air is beginning to turn cooler now. The nights, once also warm, have now become colder. N.asa hadn't grown any coat yet but that's because the days were more reasonably hot still. She often wondered how Cain faired in the Desert with all his mass. But she presumed he likely had gotten used to it. She politely listens to Cain as he talks about the wolves that made their way to the island. How could they have done that? They must have been desperate for a meal if they braved the frigid waters that surround Salem. The thought perplexes her as she walks closely with Cain. "I'm sure you've heard others tell you that you should not blame yourself. But I know that you do." She says quietly.

She pauses a moment to survey the Desert. Cacti had long since lost their Spring flowers when it turned to summer. The oasis was still plentiful despite the Summer heat. The sky a clear shade of blue as the sun had now reached a point to fully illuminate their surroundings. "Remember when I told you the Desert was familiar to me?" She asks. She turns her gaze to Cain. She can feel the sweeping sadness clench her already. "It's because I was born in the Desert. I was a prized Arabian mare to a family long from these waters. I wasn't treated poorly. My master was kind. He had the sweetest little girl. Her name was Lily." A shallow breath escapes her lips and her chest seizes a moment. But she continues. "Well, my family made a journey by ship. They took me with them. I'm not sure where we were going, but I could tell it was urgent. Permanent. But the weather during the journey was bad. The boat capsized. I don't even know how I made it to land." Her eyes avert to the sky. Her gaze lost. "I don't even know if Lily made it." Her voice cracks. "I miss her so much. I've felt lost since." She looks to Cain in embarassment. The air feels heavy. Her eyes water but tears don't fall. She sucks in a deep breath trying to quell the storm. "I am sorry for what you have lost and I hope in time you heal."
