o'er the sea to skye

Isla preened at the spotted mare's affections and beamed brightly up at her, wiggling beneath her touch. The soft bow of her neck curled into an arch and she tapped at the ground in emphasis. "I know. Then I can race Rougaru."

Grier chuckled at her daughter's proclamation. In truth, the little flower know hardly knew Rougaru. He had been there for her first day, but Grier had kept her mostly away from the towering stallion. I haven't seen anything to prove 'e's trustworthy, and Zjeena is still smitten with the damned fool. Her gaze flicked to her dearest Pidgeon as they shared breath, and she found herself inordinately pleased to not find the stink of the dark stallion over her body. Grier hadn't been blind to the pull of attraction that existed between the two of them so many months ago, and had half expected Pidgeon to give into him this season. He isnae worthy of her, she thought with a possessive edge but almost immediately relents at the image of Pidgeon nursing her own child.

There is a certain sort of comfort to resting at the side of her dearest friend and something in the pinto pony settles to have her close. Even Isla, perhaps sensing the thread of the conversation, settles somewhat. Grier listens to the tone of her friend's admission, her lips pursing together in thought. After a moment, she stretched forward to ruffle Isla's wispy mane. "Mo chride, see if yer fast enough tae catch a crab, eh?"

Having sensed that the adults were about to settle in for a chat, Isla took her chance to flee and did so gladly, her pink nose all but scraping along the ground in search of a suitable race opponent. Only when her precious daughter was a few paces did she turn back to Pidgeon with a soft smile. "Aye, lass. I ken what ye mean."

And she did. Grier was happy here, for the most part. She didn't trust Rougaru, but she had little desire to socialize beyond the few equines that she'd already met. This land did not call to her, and while she would call wherever she was with Isla and Pidgeon home, she had no great love of Paradise. Zjeena had her trust, and friendship, but the mare did not lack for those to socialize with. Rougaru was prolific, and there seemed to be a revolving door of new faces that arrived and left, many of whom seemed as bitter as the pony mare Valka. I wonder if the lass is okay, all by herself. Grier thought often of the foreign mare so far away on Tinuvel. She had given Rougaru a run for his money in claiming and releasing Paradise, and she wondered often if the girl had continued on making trouble.

"D'ye mean to leave, then? Or is it somethin' else?" There was a sickly sense of dread that filled her at the thought of Pidgeon leaving. As fond as she was of Zjeena and Monster, her true loyalty lay to Pidgeon and Isla. If the spotted mare wanted to leave, and wouldn't mind the company, she wouldn't hesitate to travel with her.
