where flowers blossom, so does hope

Roisin

Roisin's eyes grow wide at the stallion's story and her mouth gaps open in silent awe. They could go a little ways up the mountain, but momma was always careful to keep them to the safest paths, which didn't really go that high. Roisin yearned for the day she would be old enough to go up there herself and explore. She could imagine a rainbow stretching over her face and smiled at the thought of how free it must feel to see a rainbow up there. Eagerly she nods at his offer, already imagining what it might be like to go somewhere with a new friend rather than Ailill or momma or her father.

It would be an adventure, and she loved adventures.

She and Akadi could race Iscariot up the mountain ledges until they were short of breath and then they could collapse into giggles and tease each other. Those were her favorite memories - when the giggles got to be too much to contain and made your belly hurt. He could show her all the places that he had been, in the Ridge and beyond, before he came to the Ridge. Roisin knew enough to know that Faolain was part of the reason that her daddy had gone far away, but not all of it. And while she had held a grudge to begin with, she hardly had the heart to hold onto it. Faolain had not otherwise interfered in her life, and had quickly receded to a background figure that Ro hardly needed to care about.

And now, Iscariot garnered her full attention. She did pay enough attention to notice his stiff posture, but beamed with happiness as he bowed his head so that she could place the slender feather in his pale mane. A high peal of laughter followed such a placement and she eagerly followed to Akadi's side of the stallion so that she could see where her feather was placed. "You're gonna be so pretty Iscariot!"

She twisted her neck to watch as Akadi placed the shimmering blue feather in her mane and stayed in that awkward position for a moment to admire the way the colors glimmered against the golden shade of her coat.

At Iscariot's comment, she spun around to look at the feather in question and then to her sister. Akadi had always been the more shy of the two of them, forever letting Roisin take the lead. Not that she minded. Roisin did not have a timid bone in her body and would forever be the one to initiate contact and push things where she wanted them. A soft smile lifted her lips at her sister's timid approval and she laughed again, even though her suggestion had been dashed. "Yes! Green it is!"

She scampered over to the pile of feathers so that she could grab a whole mouthful of them, which was easy enough. The green macaws roosted nearby and a good number of the feathers below were green. Roisin hadn't been that excited by them to begin with considering almost everything in the jungle was green, but if that was what her sister wanted, then that was what she would get. Ro plots the feathers down in front of Akadi with a smile before whirling to Iscariot. "Help me? I'll get her tail, and you can put them in her mane."

With the imperiousness of a big sister, she studiously turns back to her task, plucking the long tail feathers from the pile and tucking them neatly into her sister's tail. Ro shimmied with excitement, beaming up at the stallion. "She's so pretty, isn't she?"
