The eagle has landed Posted on September 12, 2020 at 09:13:55 PM by benny b
Hello boys and girls,
itís been a while.
Iíll start by saying that I know everyone is disappointed in the lack of communication on my part. Iím not writing today to give any excuses. I use the quote all the time that there is a very fine line between reasons and excuses.
So let just say that I have a bunch of good excusesÖ
I do want to address some of the rumors and assumptions that Iíve been reading lately.
Iíll start off by saying that undoubtably, 100%, I do give a rats ass about our fans.
I get upset when people say that they donít care what people think. All that matters to me is what people think...
Shortly after we stopped playing on March 15, all employees of the property were furloughed, myself included.
While many look back on that time as a time of struggle where people were getting sick and losing their jobs, I took the first three months as a moment of solitude and reflection. I was quarantined in my house with just my wife and my daughter without leaving the house for any reason whatsoever. There was one point when the battery on my phone died and I didnít even recharge it. I truly enjoyed the three months that I didnít have to think about anything other than the health of my family and myself. I was able to use that time to physically and mentally get better. I was riding my bicycle for 6-8 miles a day. I was eating lean and feeling good.
Around June 15, I was called back to begin to prepare to end my furlough. I returned just after the Fourth of July weekend and began working on visa applications and other preparations to begin the season. The local players also practiced during that time.
Contrary to popular believe, we have been working very hard to prepare for opening day.
While we are not starting on September 16, we are shooting for the first week of October.
As you all have guessed, we have over 20 players that are flying in from Europe a few days before September 16. That gave me great concerns as far as players traveling to the United States and being ready to start the season under todays situation. That was the main reason for pushing back the start date.
Alongside of that, as usual weíre having problems with visas. We have six of the eleven visa players that have been approved and are waiting for their appointments at the embassy in Spain. Those players should arrive on or just after October 1. The others are still waiting for a decision from immigration.
The other concern is the safety of all players and employees during the performances. We are making modifications that would create areas for players and staff to be in during the performance. We are going to do our best to keep everybody as safe as possible during the Jai Alai games.
Iíd like to smash the rumor right here, right now, we will not be building a glass wall and switching to small court
Jai-alai. In the opinion of everyone involved there is absolutely no reason to do that. We are extremely happy with our court, the balls we play with and the players that play on that court to make that type of modification.
We donít want to go to an all singles format because everyone prefers doubles for obvious reasons but we wonít rule out a shorter performance with fewer doubles. These topics are still in discussion.
Several other factors come in to play with the county emergency orders and the phases that Broward county goes through when it comes to allowing spectators to watch live. We have submitted a plan to the county and are waiting for their approval.
One last thing, for those on INSTAGRAM. The account named DANIA JAI-ALAI is not our account. Someone made that account and although they put up very nice pictures from time to time the information recently was incorrect. The official postings for us will come from the account named The Casino at Dania Beach.
