The golden mare didn't stir at first when he approached and panic rose in his chest. He hated to think that she'd come and give birth here only to die and leave her child an orphan. He couldn't bear the thought of losing another mare. She was too young. She had too much to live for. When he looked at the filly, he could see the confusion there and he snorted softly, not wanting to spook the foal but unsure of what he needed to do in this instance. He'd seen mares give birth, mostly since he'd started showing up to watch over them. But of course he'd never taken part in it. The cleaning and feeding was part of a foal bonding with its mother. He didn't want to take that from Galexia, but what would he do if she didn't wake? He couldn't think like that. With another rattling snort, the large stallion nudged gently at the mare, hoping the contact would jolt her. He breathed on her face, about to nudge her again when she blinked her eyes and looked at him.

A breath of relief fell from his lips as she said his name in a question and he nodded. "Yes, I'm just here to check on you." He whispered softly, not wanting to spook her or the filly now. When she started saying to take it all back, he took a surprised step back, his ears laying back in confusion. Why would she say that? He looked around before looking back at her. She had to mean the desert, but surely she didn't mean it. His heart soared at the very thought of being able to guard it fully as he did once before, but his mind told him she was delirious and didn't mean what she was saying. She would take it back the minute she came to her senses. Swishing his tail, he pretended he didn't hear her this time, stepping back to her as she tried to stand. He offered his shoulder silently if she needed the support. Meanwhile, a single ear flicked toward the filly as she chose now to stand as well. He scowled as the foal fell back to the sand, thankful for the cushioned ground but worried all the same.

When Galexia spoke to him again, he turned his attention back on her, pricking his ears as she said she thought Kaiju would be the first to come greet her and his daughter. The draft's ears flicked back again, afraid that he had displeased her and overstepped his bounds by coming to her aide. He dipped his head. "I apologize if I overstepped. I worried when you didn't lift your head to tend to your child." When she asked why he was so nice to her, he tilted his head for a moment before he smiled, his gaze softening. "You remind me of my daughter. She'd be about your age and she was free spirited just like you. Her name is Paisley." She asked if her daughter was beautiful and Cain looked back at the filly, his smile widening as he nodded. "She is breathtaking." The palomino started speaking again and the tobiano turned his head to listen. He watched her patiently as she went on about her home in the Shore and when she said she hated it here, he flinched a little but knew better than to take it personally. The Desert certainly wasn't for everyone.

She went on about the cons of the Desert and said she didn't know how someone could be a mother and a queen. He snorted softly. "I don't know the answer to that either. I've heard most mares who take the title refuse to breed so they don't have to choose. It would be next to impossible to keep power without a stand-in for battles when you're pregnant or otherwise indisposed, I would imagine. Either a mate or a champion of some sort. I am sorry you feel that way about the Desert. I know it's no paradise, but it's home to me, just as the Shore is to you. I have been here for years and I wouldn't have it any other way." He looked around again, pride glowing in his brown eyes as he stared over the golden sand dunes. He looked back at her when she said to take it back again. This time he couldn't ignore her, not subtly anyway. She told him to take back the Desert and decide what he wanted to do with Kaiju. He snorted and his body tensed at the idea of another strange stallion hanging around. He grew to trust Scarecrow. The older stallion had earned his rank time and again, but Cain didn't know or trust this Kaiju and wasn't he supposed to be her mate?

Confusion glittered in his eyes as he watched Galexia. She told him she would rest before returning to the Shore. When she mentioned a reason to stay, he tilted his head, more puzzlement in his eyes as he lifted a brow in question. When she asked about the lead mare position, his mind immediately went to Vihaan, wondering what she was up to now and if she would ever return to him. But he brushed the memory back as he sighed softly and looked at Galexia. "I do not. However, I am not like most stallions. I do not reward the title to a mare of my choosing. I feel it causes unrest and jealousy amongst the herd when its chosen like that. A lead mare is supposed to be guide and protector of the other mares in the herd, someone they can look to if the stallion is otherwise indisposed. I believe she should be chosen by the mares, either in a vote or through combat, so no one can question her strength. My last lead mare fought for the rank before her untimely death." He flinched and looked away when he thought of Geneva.

Taking a deep breath, he looked back at Galexia. "The title isn't going anywhere if that's what you want when you've recovered, but I would ask that you think long and hard on it before you make that choice. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, only offering some advice. If what you just told me about the Desert rings true for you, then would you ever truly be happy here, title or not?" He met her gaze, knowing he should probably leave her to bond with her daughter, but he didn't want to leave before she'd had her say.
