The sun hung high in the sky as the dark mare rested beneath the scraggly trees at the waterhole. It was in quiet moment like this that she missed the company of Akello and his youthful antics, causing her to regret not having her own. But with the things she had faced, Melisma had been glad she hadn�t. Searching for information on Solomon had taken up most of her time last season, and then the issued challenge to Galexia. Even though the mare was younger, Melisma had never seen herself as the kind to do so. The black mare was growing, in more ways than one

After snatching another mouthful of grass, Melisma moved to the edge of the oasis and peered out into the desert. She had not spoken to Cain either, wondering if her challenge had angered the black and white stallion. She had left his standing after he had told her of what had happened, how his absence had caused them to lose their home. In more ways than one, she almost dared him to be mad at her, when this was his fault to begin with.

Tail snapping at her flanks, the thoroughbred mare turned back and ventured to the water and lowered her head to get a drink. He would show up eventually, Melisma was certain at least on that very fact.
