the strange way of the world

Seeing Tavas getting close with Solomon was hard, but not nearly as hard as he thought it would be. Before Osceola and Audie his heart would have broke yet again, but his mind instantly turns to them. For years he has been trying to get Tavas back to him embrace. She was the first mare he had a connection with, the first mare under his care, and at one point he thought she would be the first to have his child. That thought quickly changed when he decided to ‘help’ Nova. That had not turned out well and thinking back on it he realized what a poor decision that has been. Now he had a grown daughter not speaking to him and pregnant with her young uncle. I know, confusing.

Solomon may not have been the best choice to live with, but he had accepted him with no quarrel. Solomon promised Warsaw he would keep him as his second and he had until Requiem decided he no longer wanted it. There was no reason for him to be a leader anymore and he had no desire for power. Thankfully, Warsaw was done reeling him into his schemes, but that was another reason he had to get out. So, he told Solomon he was leaving with his family. He told Tavas goodbye even though she asked him to stay. It was a tough decision, but this is what Osceola wanted. What she wants matters more than what Tavas wanted. He swallows hard as he makes his way back to where he left his blue roan mare and red roan child.

At least she wasn’t with Bjorn anymore.

He arrives at the clearing, away from the rest of the Cove, where his small herd usually frequents. He does not see anyone around so he begins to grow frantic. His nose flares to catch the scents of his family until he finally finds a trail of Osceola and his daughter leading to the sea. Where were they going? He rushes into the ocean with no idea where he was going. There was no way he could follow their scents over the water as it becomes scattered and quickly fades away. Requiem stands in chest deep water with tears streaming down his face. What was she thinking? Was she leaving him?

It takes him some time to regain the will to move forward, but he does. The golden ghost swims fast until he reaches the first island. Quietly, he travels to each of the territory borders. He was careful not to alert any of the herd, especially when he caught the scent of Shamwari. His family’s scent was not here so he reenters the sea and travels tirelessly to the next. It was upon this next shore that he smells them. He does not waste any time in scrambling across the beach towards the jungle. He has never been in any kind of place like this so getting lost was enviable. Luckily for him, they had not made it far. Requiem’s legs slow as Osceola and Matoaka came into view. There was a mare talking with him, but he doesn’t bother worrying if they might be in danger. No, his mind was filled with shock and heartbreak that she may be leaving him.
