fearghas
It is clear to Fearghas that she does not like him. The scowl that she wears is enough indication even if the rest of her body language wasn't also telling him to feck off in no uncertain terms. But she was willing to hear him out and that was more than he could've asked of her.
As his final word flew between them, he was reduced to an anxious mess that simply stared at the mare, begging her to recognize the desperation in his voice. If he'd felt that he had any other way of getting Ally away from Cullen, he would've taken it. There was always the option to fight him for her of course, but Fearghas knew that even if he did manage to free her in such a fashion, it would only make Cullen redouble his efforts to get her back.
Well, and he'd watched the fight between Cullen and Faolain and recognized that he was not yet at their caliber.
Wasp's next question took him by surprise and his brow furrowed for a moment in confusion at the direction she was taking, but he was prompt with his answer. "Well, I dinna ken if she'd want ter stay there, but Faolain in the Ridge was the one that offered us a home in the Commons before Cullen ruined it awl. She tried fightin' fer Ally too, but he won."
She'd fought for him too, which had surprised him. He still wasn't sure how he felt about someone putting themselves at risk for him, but it wasn't really his choice to make. Cullen had nixed any idea he'd had of leaving as soon as he threatened Ally. Fearghas would much rather assure himself that Ally was safe by keeping a close eye on Cullen in the Lagoon than spend the rest of his days in the Ridge constantly worrying that Cullen was after him again.
"I thought that would be the safest place for her, at first, until I'm sure Cullen has found sometin' else to focus on. To be with someone that wanted ter protect her since I willnae be able to go with." He fidgets, tormented by the thought that this mare could easily dismiss his entire case and throw him out. Considering this was the Peak, the dominion of mares only, it was only to be expected.
In truth, he had considered simply going out to find more stallions. That was the other way he could free Ally and arguably likely easier than trying to negotiate or fight against the Peak, but he hated the idea. Even with Kendry's reminder that Cullen was only leader because no one had voted him out had not served as enough fuel to make him want to recruit. The risk was far too high that he would only bring in more susceptible stallions that would stick to Cullen in the same fawning way that Varanduil did.
It was better if he simply brought the ones that already knew the cruelty of Cullen's rule, rather than risk bringing two of them in.
