I have respect for Frank & Manuel and have known both for 20 years. In fact I executed nearly all of Manuel’s contracts since 2000 at Fort Pierce & Miami. He has practiced with Magic City players since our first year. He will play occasional 15 point partidos as part of after hours practice with our top performing players. He would be the first to tell you that your use of the words “much higher quality” is wrong.
Now much “more experienced” is totally accurate and in Manuel’s case “harder working” also works. But these days he keeps-up and will still win some but not all of the matches, but will not dominate our best players the way he once did.
Even as far back as last year (sometime early 2019) I held a “secret practice” including Toto & Manuel playing as a team before we started the 2019 season (to test the viability of a “Calder -vs- Magic City” tournament). Toto-Manuel did win each partido but only by at most a few points and that was BEFORE we started our second season - so before Douglas & Kubala played their first competitive season. On our court (and I am saying specifically on our court) our top players can compete against virtually any team, amateur or professional with a high degree of success.
Though I have some issues with the format of our tournament, the USNJAC on 12/5 & 12/6 should prove this all out. But I’m confident that I’m a 21 point partido the Magic City teams of Ikeda / Douglas and Carballo / RonRon will dominate just about anyone out there on the Magic City court. Replies:
