PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

a companion shortens the road bozena

fearghas

Nervous energy crackles in his blood, sparking like a barely contained campfire on the verge of bursting past a ring of rocks. Nothing in the past few hours had happened the way that he had thought it would, and he could feel the sense of danger lurking over his head as though it were tangible.

The young stallion was almost certain that there would be an attempt on his life before this situation was done and over with, and had taken to existing on only short naps stolen in the muggy heat of the day instead of resting his body at night. He had no friends left in the Lagoon who might watch over him, and while he had every intention of getting to know some of the other Lagoonies soon, he had not yet had a chance. With Kendry away to his new life in the Cove and Aallotar safely away to her new life, he was bereft of friends with a leader hell-bent on squashing him into the mud.

In truth, leadership had never been Fearghas' intention. When he had arrived as a starry-eyed young colt, it had been with the wide-eyed hope that he would find a brotherhood that would allow him to grow and thrive. This had, of course, not panned out. The Lagoonies had been captured shortly before his arrival, and all that remained of their once lively presence was a reclusive boss and a few transient guests. Even then, with seemingly nothing to stand in his way, Fearghas had been content to muddle along as a nameless face, content with Ally.

His goals only changed when Cullen had gone after Ally. Seeing how helpless he had been in the fact of Cullen's cruelty had been a slap in the face to the young colt and he had not enjoyed a single moment of it. To know that by staying in the Lagoon he was proclaiming his allegiance to such a monster had been a hard pill to swallow and one that still stuck in his throat when he thought about losing.

Even now, it is not the position itself that lures Fearghas but the displacement of Cullen. He knows, deep in his bones, that this position is not something that he is ready for. He lacks experience in all relevant categories, but he is fairly certain that if nothing else, his heart carries far less tarnish than the golden stallion that ruled the Lagoon now. Fearghas had desperately hoped that another of his brethren would step forward for the position, but it had been painfully clear that he was the only one willing to paint a target on his back. He could only hope now that the stony faces of the other Lagoonies that stared back at him would be willing to give him a chance.

Their reluctance to agree or disagree at the announcement made it clear to Fearghas that he needed more support if he were to win. He could not do this alone.

Thus, high on a lack of sleep and a constant drip of adrenaline, the whirling dervish of a young colt trotted back into the Peak, his gaze alert for Bozena. He wouldn't mind seeing Wasp again, but the Prime Minister had seemed to defer to Bozena's judgment in regards to the other Lagoonies, and he was hoping that he could strike some sort of deal with the General. Fearghas calls out as respectfully as he can manage for her and settles in to wait. If he was successful here, perhaps he could convince Rade and the other captives to come with him.

Even if Cullen had abandoned them to the Peak, Fearghas would not be so cruel. They still had a home in the Lagoon, if they were even willing to return.
