PROMISE LIVES WITHIN YOU

DARKNESS HAS COME

MAY IT BE AN EVENING STAR SHINES DOWN UPON YOU.
MAY IT BE WHEN DARKNESS FALLS YOUR HEART WILL BE TRUE.
YOU WALK A LONELY ROAD.
OH, HOW YOU ARE FROM HOME.
BELIEVE AND YOU WILL FIND YOUR WAY.
PROMISE LIVES WITHIN YOU NOW.

He was glad to see something flicker in her eyes when she sees him. Roheryn may have been too busy to really get to know the Prairie herd after he left, but he grew up with a lot of the members there. His question may have done more damage than it was worth. Roheryn watches the flicker of life leave her eyes before her lips speak of her troubles. Her troubles that would soon become his own, as she speaks of his step father. ”He did what? Why? Jabari too?” He felt like yelling. What could cause such an abrupt departure like this? He never thought in a million years that Shamwari would leave his family. Why? He could feel the air being squeezed out of his lungs quite rapidly. It was so distracting that he almost missed Darshan’s next words.

Mother? His eyes grow wide as the eyes of Darshan swells with her tears. His own swell as tears quickly slide down his own cheeks. He barely had time to process everything when a female was shouting at Darshan. He steps away to allow them some room to work out their feelings while he silently deals with his own. He felt his gut twist and his heart in his throat. He could barely breathe. Primrose! He would have to check on Primrose as soon as these mares were sorted out. Roheryn could not bring himself to leave them alone like this, not when their mate was now gone and anyone could pray on their tender hearts. He brings his gaze back to them as Darshan vows to stay with Larka.

He quickly notices the change in Darshan as her attention turns to him. He takes in a staggered breath, lips quivering. Her words wipe away his tears and bring back the sense of duty he must face as a stallion, as their protector. This is what Shamwari would have expected of him, what Sanibel would have wanted of him. Darshan begs him to take Larka away to some place safe and his head shakes. She says she will find her way back when he is ready. He understands she must be tired in her grief, but he could not allow this. “I’m sorry Darshan, but I do not find it wise to leave you alone like this. If you need time to yourself, I understand, but not here. You said it yourself, it is not safe so I would suggest going back home to gather yourself. I doubt Larka here will stand to leave you alone anyway.” He glances towards the grey Arabian before quickly finding Darshan again.

There was no way he could leave a mare alone and vulnerable in a place like this where anyone could waltz up and claim her. He steps slowly towards her, swallowing the lump in his throat. “Shamwari may not have told me himself, but I know he would want me to look after you and the rest of the herd. If you cannot physical leave now, I will wait with you until you can. I can protect you and Larka in the meantime.” He looks between the two mares with a sad smile. ”My home is open to anyone who needs a place to get away or extra protection in their time of grief. If the Prairie no longer suits you.”
