in the immortal words of a mountain goats' song: "don't call it a comeback, i've been here for years" because he literally has been here lurking in the shadows. the island has been his home since he was dejectedly tossed from his family for not being ~bad~ enough. so he swam over and was picked up as a mercenary for the bay (i believe) and became an annoyance to the inlet (it could be the other way 'round but i'm old). but then he met the queen of the peak (at the time), a spunky lil bay named corinth. they fell in love. she showed him life was more than how many lives you could ruin, they had some kids, and then corinth vanished.
fast forward around a decade later and gael has been searching for her ever since. he's depressed, he likes to mope, and he wants to protect the peak with every fiber of his being because that's the least he can do for corinth, right? he's having a baby with clarity, his first non-corinth foal, and he's feeling a weird mixture of duty, heartbreak, and displacement.
