I think that it was good to have the meeting to determine the expectations of the members on the potential Lead Mare. It helped give you an idea of what you need do to earn our trust.

I would suggest that this not be till the end of winter, but the end of Spring. We do NOT want to have a shift of power smack in the middle of the pregnant members giving birth, after all, right? That would be just asking for trouble. I believe that this is a feasible option, however, with the stipulation that there is no change in power until after the birthing season is over.

Also, I also believe that such a thing could be a yearly option for the herd - just to assure that no Lead Mare ever grows too comfortable in the position and loses her motivation.

In the event that this method does not pass - I would like to suggest Harlequin as Lead Mare and an heir or close friend of Cain to take over for her as the Guardian.
