IN ALL MY DREAMS
I DROWN
There are moments, in the darkness of the blackest nights, when reality seems to hold its breath. The moon above freezes, light becoming molten silver. Not even a branch on a tree shivers or sways. Now was one of those times, and she stood there, watching him, contemplating herself if she was truly real or merely a ghost drawn to the way the shadows danced around his gilded skin.
He has a hesitant nature that floated about, much like the bugs that flickered on and off. They did lend a fairy tale nature to the story that was unfolding. One veered away from him as the deep rumble of his voice joined the constant sound of the waterfall and it landed for a moment up the velvet tip of her nose before she exhaled it away. The stranger sounded... disappointed, she noted curiously, but the small smile still clung to her lips as she cocked her head sideways, considering the whys. Sparkling eyes, like pools of ink, had yet to stop studying his structure, but the lashes did lower slightly as he asked his question, lending a coyly mischievous cadence to her expression.
Did she want to ask for something? We’d rather take things, Moonstruck chirped to herself inside of her head, but the laugh it inspired was sung aloud, starkly different compared to the throaty way his words passed through his lips. Once again, the sound echoed like a bell before drowning in the river.
“I could ask for many things,” she said in a child-like voice, the amusement clear as it rose and fell, “Yes. Many things.”
And she took a bold step forward as she continued speaking, “What though, I find myself wondering...”
And she reached out, brushing her mouth across whatever flesh she found to steal a taste of his scent before dancing from his reach. Moonstruck had always been greedy. “What are you willing to offer?”
