Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

OOC: I apologize if this was supposed to be a closed thread for plottage. Cain was super angry....he made me do it! I can always edit or make a new thread, just figured this might make more drama if they negotiate all in the same thread. <3

He'd thought it was just another quiet day in the Desert. Oh, but how wrong he was. It was on his patrol along the beach that the Vanner stallion came across a familiar scent, that of his new Lead Mare, Melisma. A soft smile tugged at the paint stallion's features as he thought of the dark mare who'd proven herself time and again and who had come so far since he first met her. She was also pregnant with her first child and he was going to be ever watchful until that foal was born to make sure both mother and child were safe and happy. He didn't want anything to go wrong. But it was already far too late for that. He continued along his walk, expecting to find the mare's tall slender form at any moment up ahead. His ears swiveled alertly as he searched for her, his lips already parted to send her a greeting nicker when he saw her. But as he kept walking, she never did grace his sight.

Somewhere along the way, the draft stallion grew anxious. Then another scent carried to his nostrils and his muscles twitched with tension. A strange stallion....in the herd lands. His last encounter with the same sex here wasn't a favorable one so he was already on edge, especially with pregnant mares to think about. His head raised and his nostrils flared, his neck arched aggressively as he took off in a more powerful trot. He was more anxious than ever to see Melisma's form but he just wasn't seeing it. And the stallion's scent grew stronger. Snorting a ragged sound, the tobiano paused when he saw the scuffle marks in the sand by the water, his heart already hammering in his chest. No.

His eyes widened in shock and dismay as he shook his head and trotted to the water, smelling the air. Melisma and the stallion. His teeth gnashed at the air and anger boiled beneath his skin as the stallion pawed at the ground up sand. No. She couldn't be gone. She was an asset to him and this herd, one of his closest friends. And she was pregnant with his child. Rearing up, the stallion lashed out at the air as if that would bring her back, but he already knew what he needed to do. He send a cry throughout the herd lands, alerting the other mares that he needed to go and he would be back. He called out to Berit and Harlequin, telling them to watch over the herd while he was gone. And then he tore off into the water, not hesitating to launch into the waves. Not even the chill of the icy water could take away the boiling rage in his chest as Cain pushed through the water with every stroke, aimed for the mainland.

As soon as he reached land, the stallion didn't hesitate to gallop the shore line, searching for her sweet scent. The moment he got it, the Vanner raced off across the mainland and toward the Lagoon as fast as his thick legs would take him. The moment he saw her water soaked form and the golden stallion stepping closer, the rage tore from him in a blood curdling scream. His jaws gnashed the air as the stallion raced toward them, aiming his body between Melisma and the stallion. He would give her a bigger berth, not wanting to risk bumping into her with her precious cargo but maneuvered so that he could collide head-on into the other stallion if he didn't move.

He reared up, lashing out at the other stallion with his fore legs to make him back up even as his lips curled, teeth gnashing at the air, aiming for any bit of flesh he could capture between them. Once he came down, he snorted and stomped the ground, his tail swishing angrily at his hocks as he raised his head and faced the overo stallion, chosing to answer the latter question he threw at Melisma as he was racing up. "That would be me. Cain, leader of the Desert." His eyes narrowed like daggers on the other stallion as he snorted again and pinned his ears. "I believe you took something that belongs to me and I'd like very much for her to return home with me." Knowing he couldn't just fight for her here and now and that the stallion wasn't about to just let her go without getting something in return, he took a deep breath before continuing.

"The season for breeding is over and, as you can see, she's already spoken for, anyway. Her child would be of no use to you as a newborn. It'll be fragile and helpless. I have older children, sons." He watched the stallion carefully for his reaction, wondering if he would be up for negotiating. He hated to force this on anyone, but if anyone would understand the circumstances, it would be his sons. They believed in the herd and family as much as he did. Maybe this stallion just wanted new members for his herd. He could look at Cain and see he was a fighter and he probably bred fighters as well. That should work out better for him than a newborn child.
