The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.

If there was one thing he would never doubt about Harlequin, it was her devotion to the Desert and the herd. He knew she cared for him, but would never ask her to voice her true emotions just as she had never asked that of him. Love was still such a foreign emotion to him, and to have it rip into him like a fatal wound like it did when he did finally feel something...it left a bitter taste in his mouth. At least he'd finally gotten it out and gave life to his feelings when he went to the Prairie to see Vihaan last. Somehow he'd managed to gain the courage to tell her that he loved her and that he always would. If that wasn't enough, then he wouldn't push anymore. She had family to think about, especially the still very traumatized Everglow. And he'd done that to her. He would never forgive himself for the bullying he put her through on the Crossing. Because of him, she was damaged.

Since then, she'd haunted him as a reason to keep fighting, to keep doing good for others. Because of her, he fought Rougaru to rip Melinoe from his forced grasp. Because of her, he offered sanctuary to mares but never made them stay here. They were welcome to leave anytime they wanted. Because of her, he would never force or bully another mare. He would never be that stallion again.

But Vihaan didn't need to carry that burden. If she wanted to be with family, then she should be with family. She knew she would always be welcome in the Desert. Just as his son, Akello, would, no matter where he decided to spend his time.

Harlequin was thoughtful for a moment before telling him how she'd been considering the options and she saw them both as strong mares. She thought they would work well together, making a whole of two halves with their different personalities. Cain had to nod his head in agreement. He could see it as well. He just didn't want to strip the painted mare of her reward just because of her observance. In his eyes, she more than deserved the title he'd given her, proving time and again what she was capable of. When he told her about her tongue, she reached out to him, telling him he thought of the right things to say sometimes and joked about teaching an old dog new tricks. A harsh snort left his nostrils as he jerked his head back as if offended, eyes glaring playfully at her for a moment before he reached out to nip at her shoulder. "I believe you just called me old. Guess I'll have to show you."
