Why did she keep doing this to herself? The grullo paint hated the feeling of pregnancy. Don't get her wrong; the surprise of a little kick or the outline of a muzzle pushing at her stomach did have a way of pulling a smile to her lips. She loved knowing the child inside her was alive and healthy. It made her feel powerful, just another strength in her arsenal. She could give life. It was an amazing feeling. But the overall feeling of pregnancy? Naw, she'd pass on that. She felt bloated and miserable and tired and SO hungry. She could never get full, which told her she was having another colt. Call it a super power, but so far, she hadn't been wrong. When she had Medusa, she didn't eat as much. If anything, she always had a feeling of being full. Then with Loupgaru came the intense hunger that never stopped.

She would bet money it was a colt growing inside her. Rougaru would be pleased. Another son to take over the world. But until he came out, she had to waddle around and glare at others from a distance. She couldn't just prance around and scream her challenges to the wind. It wasn't nearly as fun to waddle. She couldn't run like she wanted to. She couldn't fight like she wanted to. She felt frustrated and irritable and the most she could do right now was paw at the ground and kick a rock. It felt so unfair. But it was all about to come to an end.

She was filling her ever hungry belly when the pain started. First, just a cramp or two to announce itself, but she was a three-time mother now and she was starting to know the drill. It may just be cramping, or it might be something more. Snorting, she looked back at her stomach, eyes narrowed as if to say "really? You coming or what?" The unborn child answered quickly enough, causing another longer cramp that almost made her knees buckle. She gasped through the contraction, her lungs suddenly burning for oxygen as all the breath was knocked from her. Stomping the ground in irritation, she shook her head and started into the thicker trees to get some cover. It wasn't going to be pretty; she could tell already.

When the next contraction hit, she couldn't stand it. This time, her knees hit the ground hard. She grunted at the impact, rolling to her side as another came right after. A long groan left her lips as she squeezed her eyes shut, an unbidden tear rolling down her muzzle as she panted, trying to catch her breath. Blood trickled to the ground from where she's scraped her knees but she ignored it as she rolled back to her stomach. She tried to rise again, but another contraction had her right back on her side panting. "To hell with it then..." She gasped. "This will do." She had meant to go further into the tree lines but it seemed her child had other ideas. Closing her eyes again as another wave hit, she tried to think of good things, anything other than the pain. She thought of her eldest daughter Medusa, wondering what she was doing right now, wondering if she was welcoming a child into the world this year or if she'd decided to wait. She was a smart girl. She'd probably wait.

The thought brought a weary smile to her lips but it was stripped right away by a new longer contraction. She tried to lift her head when she heard screaming, wondering what else was going on. But then the painted mare realized it was coming from her. Dammit. She hadn't meant to make any noise this time. Last time, she'd about called the whole herd to watch her give birth and she didn't want a repeat. She tried to shut her mouth and ended up biting her tongue instead. The tangy metallic taste of blood filled her mouth and she started to cough right as more contractions hit that knocked the breath right out of her again. She let out another long groan, spitting blood to the ground as she listened to her instincts and started to push. It was finally time. She felt the ripping and tearing, another groan leaving her as her hooves flailed against the ground, kicking and lashing out at nothing.

After what felt like hours but could have been merely minutes, she felt the release of pressure and knew the child was out. "About damn time." She muttered weakly as the mare tried to roll back to her stomach. She didn't succeed the first time, but gasped in the new pain from her backside as she stretched muscles that were damaged. Clenching her jaw, the grullo tried again, grunting through it as she scrambled to her stomach to get a good look at what she'd done. Eyes of blue and brown landed on the birthing sac first, lying empty on the ground. She blinked, knowing something wasn't right. Something was missing. Then she heard the rattling snort and her head twisted around, eyes widening in shock. A fire red colt stood on shaky legs a couple feet from the sac, eyes narrowed in determination as he tried to straighten up.

She looked him over, surprise registering on her features. Where did the red come from? Then he turned his gaze to her and she couldn't help but smile. "There he is." She murmured, meeting the reptilian green gaze of her newest son. She didn't know how to explain the coat, but at least she knew he was Rougaru's by his eyes. Not that there should be any doubt. It's not like she got out much anymore. The colt managed to straighten finally, though his long legs still wobbled. Letting out another harsh snort to clear his nostrils, the boy then turned his gaze back on Monster and she swore he was glaring at her impatiently. Someone must be hungry. As if in answer, he stomped a hoof. Ears flicking back at the clear attitude she was getting, Monster scowled. "Boys..." She grumbled before trying to get her legs beneath her.

She gritted her teeth as she put weight on her throbbing knees, feeling them wobble and threaten to give. "No." She commanded, straightening her legs finally before she reached out her muzzle to her son. "Come, have your fill, demanding one." But no one could deny the pride and affection already glittering in her eyes as the colt wobbled over to her and thrust his little head right where it needed to be with no coaxing. She gasped at the sharp pain of his milk teeth as he started to suckle, pounding his head into her udders as he demanded more milk. Her legs trembled beneath her but she pinned her ears and set her jaw. She would not go down, at least not until her son had his food. Craning her neck around, she took in his strong physique and her lips tugged into a small smile. "A true leader, an alpha in your own right." Blinking, her smile stretched wider as she lifted her head.

"As your name should be. Alpha." The colt gave a snort as if in approval, too focused on his prize of food. Meanwhile, blood steadily dripped down her back legs. She was losing strength fast, but she wouldn't let her son down. She closed her eyes, willing herself to breathe through it. "You can sleep when you're dead." She grumbled to herself.
