nobody sees, nobody knows [x]

Monster's dismissal of her guilt should have soothed Rae's discomfort, but in truth it only took the very edge off. It was all well and good to have someone say she was not at fault, and something else entirely to look back at the interaction. She still could not figure out how she had allowed such a thing to happen, nor how she even instigated such a terrible course of action.

The tobiano mare continues to try and reassure her, a feat which Sonorae cannot help but appreciate. It helps reaffirm her trust in the Pardisian herd again, and in horses in general. When the tone changes from kind absolution to gentle admonishment, the grey's gaze dips away again with cheeks that grow hot. It seemed like such a childish thing to forget. She had no idea how old she even was, but it was evident that this had not been her first heat. And had she not felt the flush of hormones that preceded such a thing? The anxious irritability? The restlessness?

And yet she had still gone to the Crossing.

Suitably chastised, Rae's gaze does not rise again, even when Monster attempts to reassure her that Rougaru would not it against her. Her phrasing brings worries anew, although she does not voice them this time. He'll know you didn't ask for it, she says. But what if she had? Certainly, Sonorae had not been the slightest bit inclined at the moment to allow the nameless brute to have his way with her, but what if he had courted her first? What if he had come with sweet words and gentle touches that would have brought her guard down in the same way that Rougaru had that first night?

What if she had asked for it? Would he have cast her out then?

This world seemed to be full of traps and pitfalls specifically designed to trip her up. It felt as though no matter where she went she was bound to make some sort of mistake, and yet it wasn't as though she could magic her memory back into place.

Sighing softly, Rae shook her head and allowed her ears to splay in resignation. "That is good to hear," she answers with no conviction and a single hoof lifts as she shifts in the opposite direction. "I… should probably go sleep, or something." She is desperate to leave this conversation and to carve out her own few moments of peace. Suddenly aware that it was quite a rude goodbye, an awkward smile fits onto her lips. "I appreciate your help, Monster."

Only then does she turn to the undergrowth and slip beneath the comforting boughs of the dense greenery. When she is fairly certain that she is out of the spotted mare's sight, she takes off into a run, seeking to lose herself in the blur of physical motion.
