Havelle’s reaction to him is like a slap in the face. While so enraptured by her, he can not think to understand why she seems so afraid of him. Bacardi feels a mixture of emotions rush to respond, wanting to both comfort her and be wounded by her. So he stands there, frozen, only staring at the filly as she begins to cry. The choked words of what ails her barely allowing breath to enter his lungs. For a moment, Bacardi even forgets to breath.


Although he had realized her condition the moment he had seen her, it only became a reality as she admits it. And with no other explanation, Bacardi can only think that it is his that she carries. That one night together they had shared, though brought him pleasant memories and heated feelings, only seemed to torment her further. “Havelle….” he says her name again, despite not having said anything else. His tone is changed, softer, and almost questioning.


Slowly, Bacardi approaches the tawny colored filly. His head lowered and his black rimmed nose extended to her. He hopes to brush his lips along her tear-stained cheek, to wipe away the salty liquid and to show her it would all be okay. If he convinced her, then maybe he could convince his racing heart. “I will not abandon you.” Bacardi quietly promises, hoping that she will hear the truth in his words. “I will try to be the stallion you deserve.” Although he did not have a clue as to where he could even start, Bacardi hopes he can keep his promise. That fate would not further twist him away from the one thing he desired the most.
