once there was, once there was not

Irshi saw her before she issued her soft nicker and gentle quip, rolling like a smooth stone through the foliage—practiced and poised. She kept an ear fixed upon the woman while she completed her dance, her amber eyes glowing with anticipation in the moonlight.

“Or perhaps early, my shadow,” she retorted back playfully, coming to rest before her under the dappled moonlight, offering her the term of endearment in addition to a sly but genuine smile. The other woman was formed from the same mold as she, sharing the uniquely sloped shoulders and metallic gleam of her coat, but for every bit of gold she was painted with, the other was instead streaked with black—darker than a collapsed star.

She was indeed, a dark mirror.

“I did not think I would see you so soon,” she added. “But I am glad nonetheless.”

Irshi was drawn to this place, with its endlessly enticing youthful souls brimming from deep within the brush. However there was another reason she came as well; the message murkier, buried farther within herself than her simple wish to be a guiding light for them. As she kept her gaze steady on the other 'Teke, she flicked her white tail to and fro, bright as a beacon.

“I would love to hear your lessons,” she continued, ever the studious sort. “Should you be willing to look backward for a portion of this evening.”
