His mares were all so different and unique in their personalities, and he adored every one of them, even the ones that were harder to get close to. Cerosi was always withdrawn and kept to herself, though she seemed to form a fast friendship with the Arabian mare, Nasa, when she was here. That's why Cain hated to see her leave when she took over the Harbor. He was afraid for a time that Cerosi would leave to go with her, though he couldn't blame her. It was easy to see how much more comfortable she was in the other mare's presence than she ever was in his own. Yet he got to see a new side of her when he spied her and his son, Akello, one night, sleeping side by side. It gave him hope to see her reaching out to someone else, a male, at that. But then Akello left to go to Luthien and Cerosi started to withdraw again. Cain hated to see it. So when Ironclad tried to come for her, he felt irritated that another mare would be taken from him. He almost blamed himself. Did it mean he wasn't trying hard enough? Just like when Solomon took Mazarine, did it mean he should have reached out more? He didn't want to chase the mares or make them pay him attention. That wasn't who he was anymore. He wanted them to come to him. But what if they never did? Should that mean he should let them go? He would never stop them, but it didn't mean it wouldn't take a piece of his heart when they did leave. Then he assumed that Cerosi reached out to Ironclad and let him breed her. He didn't know what to think. He wasn't angry and he didn't feel betrayed. Cerosi wasn't bound to him in any way, as none of his mares were. He just questioned whether she really wanted to be here with him. Did she feel like she had no choice, that he was keeping her here and she couldn't leave? Did she reach out to Ironclad in desperation, hoping he would save her? But when Cain found her with the newborn foal, some things started to click. She looked at the foal with a sort of shocked indifference, like a mare who didn't know what she was getting herself into might. Cain didn't want to assume anything more, but he had to wonder at that point if Cerosi had given into instinct and never meant to let things go that far with the younger stallion. He wasn't about to ask her, though. It was her business. Instead, he tried to shower her with acceptance and patience, giving her a shoulder to lean on, should she need it. When he told her that he would always watch out for her, she stumbled and for a moment, the tobiano feared she would fall. He gasped a little and adjusted to catch her, if needed so he ended up standing beside her when she paused. A single ear flicked to her and his head tilted toward her, but he waited patiently, letting her gather her thoughts. She sighed and then he saw the glistening of tears on her cheek. His own gaze softened as he lowered his head to try to make eye contact. "Cerosi...?" He questioned, unsure of the sudden emotions. Was it because of the birthing, or something else? She collapsed into his side suddenly and he relaxed his body against her, letting her cry as he stood there silently. At her softly sighed apology, he shook his head. "Don't be." He murmured softly, wanting her to know that her feelings are justified, that she's alright to feel whatever she felt. He turned his head just enough to look back with one eye, his lips tilted in a small smile. At her next words, he nodded. "Of course. As long as you want me to." He assured her softly.
