Re(9): ARE KCMO RATINGS REALLY THAT BAD????

Well I'm not sure you have the full handle of it all from your little corner of the comment room.

Some stations don't go after the same audience, they are nitche targeters else they'd all sound the same, wouldnt they? Unfortunately most stations do compete with other stations for the same listener taste, but thankfully not all.

And both internet and satrad have capitalized on the differences. What's too bad is that commercial radio has way too many top 40 programmers among them, and too many even treat oldies...music already run into the ground, as current hits. Playlists are way too narrow.

You should read the 40 star surveys tht get posted fm time to time and be reminded how much great music doesn't make it to your list and hasn't since they were popular the first time.

I dont really complain much anymore, I just dont' listen. I already have most of those songs among my 30,000 selections of all genres I care about.

I have one advantage you don't. I've spent more time on the PUBLIC side of radio now than the STUDIO side. Today's MD's are still hung up reading Billboard for direction what to play...and most of you listeners bought few if any singles. For the top selling LP's, virtually every cut is a hit but not by your definition. You left a gaping hole for satrad and a huge industry of online music sellers and they've filled it.

What I'd be curious to know is how many ears dont listen to rated stations or any radio at ALL? Maybe they latch onto music from concerts, or albums by artist, or The Voice, or Got Talent, etc. Or got addicted to a decade cannel on satrad. You'd never know about those because Billboard will never know about those. I really don't know many people actually Into the music who thought much of commercial radio.

This ain't my first rodeo, jack!
