Leilani lifts her head as the sound of movement in the brush alerts her to the fact that she was not alone. Despite her determination to survive, the sudden fear that overwhelms her causes her small silver body to grow rigid. Tiny nostril flare as she shivers, dark eyes blinking wide as she takes a step backwards, somehow comforted by the still form of her mother against her heels despite the fact that the mare could no longer offer her any protection.

However, whatever manifestations her mind assured her would find her, is not what slips from the dense green foliage. Small ears perk as the two mares and their foals appear. A desperate cry echoes past her lips as she staggers unsteadily towards them, relieved to find that she is not alone in this strange new world. The dark mare steps towards the still form of her mother and Leilani too stops to glance back at mother. Though she did not quite understand the words that the dark mare murmured, she did know the tone of her voice and it echoed her own feelings. Sadness tugged at her heart as she moved closer to the dark mare, comforted by the warmth of her body. Curious eyes glance up at the painted mare as she too steps closer, her gaze shifting between the still form of mother and the dark mare she called N.asa. Were they deciding her fate? Would they leave her alone again? Like a slithering snake coiling around its prey, Leilani could feel fear beginning to grip her. Desperately she glances from one to the other before giving her tiny head a shake, damp ears flopping. She would not be left behind again. Mother may be beyond her reach but she would show them that she was not.

Once again the angry growl of hunger causes her stomach to rumble. The sweet, delicious scent of milk coming from both the mares is enough to make her mouth water and without fear of repercussion from her, Leilani rushes forward to bury her muzzle beneath the dark mare's flank, ignoring the protect of the foal at her side.
