When the mare shifted closer to him, Cain tried not to read too much into it, figuring it was just second nature for her to seek comfort while reliving her past. Yet it would be a lie to say his chest didn't tighten with hope as she sought him out in those moments, wishing that she would forever do so. As her body pressed to his, he let out a contented sigh, his own body melting against hers as naturally as water flowing through rocks. When he looked at her, she flushed and his own eyes twinkled with amusement to see such an innocent reaction. It reminded him Berit and her own self conscious actions when they first met. As her head tipped back though, he could see the doubt in her eyes and his own softened in response, wanting her to know that she did nothing wrong. The last thing he wanted was for her to regret ever reaching out to him.

His heart lifted as she responded to his story, her shoulders straightening for the first time in an echo of the confidence she found on the Crossing with him and Solomon. As he told her about his past, she grew bolder in her actions, reaching out to graze his cheek and his neck with her muzzle before tucking her head beneath his jaw. Such an affectionate gesture, and one he would cherish always. His lips tugged into a smile as he relaxed against her, letting out a soft breath of contentment as he let his eyes close for a moment, savoring her touch. Words didn't need to be said for him to feel her understanding and sympathy. When she finally did pull away, he couldn't stop the flash of disappointment in his gaze. When he apologized for telling her such dark things, she shook her head and he pricked his ears as she spoke, drinking in her honeyed words.

She said she was grateful and knew it wasn't easy to relive the past. Grief flickered in his eyes as he thought again of Berit, such raw pain still evident in his defeated posture. For a moment, he thought he could see more curiosity in her eyes before she changed the subject, saying she disagreed with him. That made him tilt his head in question before she said she didn't believe the land was cursed. She said he had changed and if he was being held responsible for his past then they wouldn't have met. That made him smile and his eyes twinkled once more. "And I will forever be grateful that I did get the chance to know you." He watched her pretty features for a moment more before clearing his throat and turning to continue the tour around the Desert.

"The other herd members will be happy to meet you, as well. I don't have a Second for the moment but we have a Guardian, Harlequin. She's a spitfire that I met on the Crossing. Our first meeting wasn't half as civil as the one with you." He added with a little smirk. "I was still pushy at the time and she wore her confidence like a flag. I only managed to get her here through sheer weight. I'm sure if she'd had half the muscle tone as I, there's no way I would have won that battle." He said with a little chuckle. "Our relationship started off rocky, but she was here to watch me change and when I finally got over myself, we developed a friendship that turned into more. Now she's one of my most trusted members and has mothered two beautiful daughters."

He waited to see if she had any questions on that before going further, figuring he could touch on the other herd members while showing her around. He made sure to stop at every oasis along the way to let her refresh her thirst and take breaks beneath the shade of the palm trees. He even showed her the date trees that were starting to grow fruit, cautioning her that they were at their sweetest in the Fall. He showed her some of the berry bushes as well, letting her know which ones were good to eat and which ones to avoid, wanting her to know everything she could to survive and thrive here.

When they reached the caverns, he showed her the entrance ways, letting her feel how much cooler the air was once you step inside and gave her a quick tour to see the cold springs that fed pools inside the caves, always fresh for drinking in the heat of the summer. He kept his pace patient and slow, letting her decide the speed at which they moved. He didn't her to feel pressured or rushed in any way, keeping his ears swiveling in case she had questions or observations about anything as they went along.
