Sadly, I advise that, following a long battle, Jim passed away peacefully today, 1 May, 2021 at 1400 hrs (2.00pm) with Kathryn and family members at his side.

Jim was a Vietnam veteran and a fellow No. 9 Squadron Door Gunner. From the Vietnam Roll, A225054 Leading Aircraftman James Andrew 'Jim' GABLE served with No. 1 Operational Support Unit (No. 1OSU) from 4th June, 1969 to 9th October, 1969. No 9 Squadron (No. 9 Sqn) from 9th October, 1969 to 4th June, 1970 and No. 1OSU from 4th to 5th June, 1970. Jim returned to Vietnam for a second tour with No. 9Sqn from 6th October, 1971 to 8th December, 1971 and then back to No. 1OSU from 9th December, 1971 to 24th February, 1972.

Jim was a stalwart of the Airfield Defence Association of Australia (Inc) and was our Treasurer for many years. For his service to Veterans and their families, Jim was honoured by the award of OAM which was promulgated in the Queens Birthday Honours List published on Monday, 10 June, 2019.

On behalf of the National President of the Airfield Defence Association of Australia (Inc), the Committe and all members, I pass on condolences to Kathryn and all family members.
