I think I was hangin around my dad's ad agency at the Livestock Exchange before you learned your ABC's! He bought some radio but mostly trade publications because he served agribusiness. It's always funny to hear you lecture me about the ad bidness. Honestly, I thought the agency business was pretty boring. Dad pushed me into Bus Admin and Marketing but once I got a taste of the performing arts and journalism working my way through college, I dropped out in December one year and moved to Doodah to change my major.
To my surprise, the Olathe Board 33 got me in less than 30 days, and I was on my way to Ft Leonard Wood! I did grow up some after 2 years and 7 months in green but did finally get enrolled at Hillside High and even got some GI bill money. It was kinda strange, I was doing morning drive news full time while taking basic newswriting and editing. Jeez, I hated accounting classes! That was in the days when debits and credits were hand written and no one heard of accounting software.
For the last couple decades, I've always been fascinated how our CPA just keyed in our numbers on his computer and in 15 minutes or so, was printing out both federal and state tax returns! Do you actually find fun crunching numbers, Jim?
You never did say why you departed actually working in radio or become a radio sales mgr, as long as you've been around it. Lotta successful and veteran sales guys ended up running or owning stations. Course they were motivated and born to hustle, I guess.
