810am Sports and 92.3 Wichita

Chad Boeger’s Pinnacle Media will launch Sports “ESPN Wichita 92.3 The Fan” KKGQ Newton/Wichita KS on Monday, June 14.

Boeger, who heads Union Broadcasting and its Sports stations in Kansas City and Louisville, acquired KKGQ from Rocking M Media for $623,000 in April. The deal helped settle the legal battle between Rocking M and Envision Broadcast Network dating to the 2017 merger of then-Envision owned KKGQ into Rocking M’s Wichita closer. Rocking M agreed to sell its entire cluster in 2019 to Allied Media Partners, however liens placed on the stations by Envision were unable to be cleared and Envision locked Rocking M Media out of their studios located at Envision’s headquarters leading to the sale collapsing. The former Red Dirt Country “Kansas Country 92.3” has been operating as Country “92.3 The Brand” when on the air since then.

The new format will create a format competitor to Audacy’s 1240 KFH/97.5 K248CY. Shane Dennis, who had been co-hosting the 9-11am show on KFH, has jumped to KKGQ to host from 12-2pm. The KKGQ lineup will also feature simulcasts of two programs originating at Union’s 810 WHB Kansas City. “The Border Patrol” with Steven St John, Nate Bukaty and Jake Gutierrez, which airs from 7-10am in Kansas City will see its final two hours air in Wichita. KKGQ will also carry the final half of “The Program with Brad Porter” from 4-6pm.

ESPN Radio programming including Keyshawn, JWill and Zubin from 5-8am, “Greeny” with Mike Greenberg from 10am-12pm, and Max Kellerman from 2-4pm will air in all other dayparts.
